Flag-raising happens every day in Tiananmen Square, at dawn, with marching soldiers accompanied by music. Although the actual raising of the flag only lasts 147 seconds (the time it takes the sun to rise above the horizon), crowds gather to see this symbolic ceremonial event. Join them and experience it at dawn - check the times here - and if you've missed it, there's a ceremony at sunset when the flag is taken down too.
